For many life has almost returned to normal and many are quite enjoying working from home which for some in large corporates are keen to return to a pre-covid world by announcing plans to return to the workplace fully in the next few months.
There are however some who look at the UK Governments announcement on Monday to delay Step 4 reopening in England, as another ‘nail in the coffin’ for already struggling industries and many smaller businesses too.
The hospitality industry finds it almost impossible to turn a profit with social distancing measures in pubs and restaurants. Nightclubs are not allowed to open, the theatre and entertainment industry are in a similar situation too.
Another sector severely affected is the aviation and tourism industry who find it impossible to plan and are making huge losses given the high costs involved in operating, especially at this peak period of the year where they make the majority of their earnings.
Many may say, I can wait a few weeks to go to a packed pub or to see a show or I can go on holiday next year…
…however, they may find that when they come round to it, these businesses simply won’t exist to serve them anymore.
Those that do exist may be charging a big mark-up in newly monopolised industries, which also will be trying to plug the losses they experienced during lockdowns.
▶️ Do you think that there should be specific help for these industries which are severely affected by lockdowns?
👍🏽 If so, which industries do you think should be supported urgently?
👎🏽 If not, why not? I’d appreciate your thoughts/comments.
